exploring opera

Hello!!!

I am so excited to write this post as it is my first one this year and it is all about Opera. Last year (cannot believe we are in a new year already!) I had the privilege of working with the Northern Opera Group on their Christmas production of Cinderella and I absolutely LOVED it. I have always been a big fan of opera but I am by no means a specialist or even knowledgeable about the art. It was great to work on an opera performed in English (makes it all that more understandable), and one that was very comical and light hearted, as I think these things break some of the negative connotations opera can receive. The opera version of Cinderella by Pauline Viardot is different enough from the fairy tale that it keeps the audience guessing but still has all the magic and beauty of the story we all know and love. My role on this project was to design the show and I wanted to share some photos from the production.

The opera was performed at Duke Studios in Leeds, which is a fantastic venue which rents out spaces for artists and creatives to use as their offices. I loved being surrounded by that creative atmosphere and I really loved the performance space, although it was a challenging space to transform as it was a very open room. In the end we settled on creating a 1950s look. A 50s apartment look with ...

The team was incredible to work with, we had a lot of fun on production week and I really enjoyed meeting them all. The cast was a community cast, who all worked so hard and were so much fun!

Hope you enjoyed the photos!

See you soon,
